     "We don't know what's going to happen during this ten days?"  Is there a word from the Lord?  "Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." -Amos 3:7  Ellen White has written volumes on the topic of the Latter Rain.  Are we really in the dark about where the Latter Rain fits in to the final events?  We have been warned about an endeavor to "introduce a counterfeit", "before the time", even "among the people of the Lord!"

• Myers - "We've been in contact with various people who have said they are willing to write articles to help as, sort of like study guides for the churches.  They can download it and use them during their Wednesday night prayer meetings.  We got, G. Edward Reid, Doug Batchelor, Steve Wohlberg, Randy Maxwell, Ruthie Jacobson, Dennis Smith.  These are some of the pastors and people who have dedicated to this mission.  Which again has started from the grass roots, bottom up.  This is not a program that has come from the top down.  And that is why we see so much prophetic significance in it.  Because it is, God is taking this work, we believe into his own hands."

     We don't see a grass roots movement at all.  What we see so far is one person's idea that caught on.  We see emotional excitement and "imagination" being used to try to lead people to a revival.  The Great Controversy directly warns against this type of means to bring about revival*, no matter how good the revival materials.  The end does not justify the means.

• Garner - "When you look at the Biblical model for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the one thing that the Holy Spirit put it's blessing on was the unity that they had there.  And one might ask, how are we going to achieve that kind of unity in a worldwide church, when we have so many different factions, holding one thing in high esteem and maybe not something else, and we sometimes within our church have battles over these issues, and I don't need to list them, we can think of what they might be.  But how are we going to achieve that unity within our church, and particularly in such a short period of time?"

     Thankfully that question has been answered for us, but apparently it's not going to anything to do with Operation Global Rain (referred to as OGR from this point on).  Sadly we can be sure that it won't be of our own doing. 
     “I was shown the inhabitants of the earth in the utmost confusion. War, bloodshed, privation, want, famine, and pestilence were abroad in the land. As these things surrounded God's people, they began to press together, and to cast aside their little difficulties. Self-dignity no longer controlled them; deep humility took its place. Suffering, perplexity, and privation caused reason to resume its throne, and the passionate and unreasonable man became sane, and acted with discretion and wisdom.”  {1T 268.1}

Ivor attempts to explain that the abomination of desolation isn't the event that will really set the final events off, but it's  2 Chronicles 7:13,14.

• Myers - "When we have this global cry it will lead to a global exodus.  People from all over the globe will be coming out of the various religious bodies.  And this mass exodus is of course going to lead to a global persecution, "who is it that's pulling all these members out of my..."   And all of the sudden, all the prophecies we've been talking about now begin to unfold before our very eyes.  See, as Adventists we're waiting for a Sunday Law to spring us into action, God is waiting for 2 Chronicles 7:14 to spring us into action and to, as it were, to set off "the chain reaction."

     While we agree we should not wait for Sunday Laws to "spring us into action," we have to take major issue at this point. When mentioning the signs of the end, I don't recall Jesus saying "therefore when you see the latter rain spoken of by Daniel the prophet..."  In all of this OGR's theories we have not heard one mention of the National Sunday Laws and how we are told that they will come FIRST.

• "As America, the land of religious liberty, shall unite with the papacy in forcing the conscience and compelling men to honor the false sabbath, the people of every country on the globe will be led to follow her example." {6T 18.2} {Mar 214.3}

• "Foreign nations will follow the example of the United States. Though she leads out, yet the same crisis will come upon our people in all parts of the world." {6T 395.1} {Mar 214.4}

     So where does this event fit into OGR's theories?  According to everything that we've studied, National Sunday Laws come before the Latter Rain.

This can't be man-made because people around the globe were thinking the same thing?

     This is one of the most powerful evidences to us that patience (mentioned four times in James 5:7,8 directly in relation to the latter rain) is not being displayed in this movement.  This is evidence to me that this movement is going ahead of God.  We are to be daily praying for the Latter Rain, but to put our own works into action to somehow bring it about the final events?

     Then why does the OGR website state: "If God were to be so gracious as to answer" in reference to the global outpouring of the Holy Spirit, specifically the Latter Rain?  This sounds pretty close to "date setting."  At best it's intimation.

It's good because there are no negative reports and the Central California Conference president is 100% behind it.

     It seems that other comments made even in this analysis would speak to the contrary.  Ellen White has made it very clear what God is going to do.  And that we are not going to sincerely begin to finish the work until a time of "terrible crisis" and that will produce the "corporate" final shaking.

     "The work which the church has failed to do in a time of peace and prosperity she will have to do in a terrible crisis under most discouraging, forbidding circumstances. The warnings that worldly conformity has silenced or withheld must be given under the fiercest opposition from enemies of the faith. And at that time the superficial, conservative class, whose influence has steadily retarded the progress of the work, will renounce the faith and take their stand with its avowed enemies, toward whom their sympathies have long been tending. These apostates will then manifest the most bitter enmity, doing all in their power to oppress and malign their former brethren and to excite indignation against them. This day is just before us. The members of the church will individually be tested and proved. They will be placed in circumstances where they will be forced to bear witness for the truth. Many will be called to speak before councils and in courts of justice, perhaps separately and alone. The experience which would have helped them in this emergency they have neglected to obtain, and their souls are burdened with remorse for wasted opportunities and neglected privileges." {5T 463.2}

     "This emergency" refers to a series of events that most were not prepared for.  And that is restriction of liberties, by legislation at a National level.

John Lomacang intimates that the Latter Rain will be poured out in great measure, beginning on 7-07-07.

     How can this be compared to 1844?  Operation Global Rain is using worldwide satellite, internet, and email to raise "awareness" for this event.  Because of this, we cannot agree, this is nothing like 1844.

• Myers - "Revelation chapter 20 is a very powerful chapter, speaking about the chaining of the devil."

• Myers - "And for the sake of time, I'm going to, we'll paraphrase these, or just give the themes.  But in Revelation chapter 20:1-4, we find and angel, in fact, we can read verse 1.  "I saw an angel come down from heaven having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.  And he laid a hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years."  Now this event is a dreaded event in Satan's mind.  He fears that angel with the chain.  OK.  This time period which begins the millennium also is signified by the second coming of Christ, when the dead are resurrected, and uh, uh, are caught up with him in the clouds.  So our question tonight is real simple.  Or, our theme rather, is, is, our theory, let me say that first, is could there be a chain reaction that brings about this angel with the chain in his hand?

• Lomacang - "OK, I gotcha."

• Myers - "In other words, what is it that brings, the devil doesn't want this angel to come and bound him for a thousand years, but this is the end of a chain reaction."

• Lomacang - "That's right."

• Myers - "So there is something that sets into motion this angel coming with the chain in his hand.  And I want to call it a "chain reaction."

• Lomacang - "I like that."

• Myers - "OK, so we want to find out, amen, we want to find out what is it that sets off the..."

• Myers and Lomacang together - "... chain reaction."

• Lomacang - "OK"

• Myers - "All right, and pastor Thom is going to read a verse for us which we believe is the key event that sets off the chain reaction."

• Garner - "It's found in 2 Chronicles 7:13,14.  And the setting here is the dedication of the temple by Solomon.  And Solomon prays this beautiful prayer, and it says in verses 13 and 14, "When I shut up heaven," speaking of God, "When I shut up heaven and there is no rain or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."  We believe that as we gather together and pray that we set in motion a chain of events which ultimately will result in the..."

• Myers - "Bring about that angel with the chain in his hand."

• Garner - "Yes."

• Lomacang - "That's right."

• Myers - "So OK, if it is in essence a "prayer chain" ... (looks around for confirmation and hums.)

• Lomacang to Garner - "You didn't get that pastor?"

• Myers - "His face is like that sometimes.  It is a "prayer chain" that sets the "chain reaction" into action, that brings about the angel, with the chain in his hand, oooooh."

• Lomacang - "If you could see what's happening right now in the homes of the people.  That's amazing.  That's a wonderful connection."

• Myers - "So now here's the thing, when God's people get together and pray on a global level, OK, what happens next in that chain reaction is we find it in Joel chapter 2, where God says "if will pray" "if we will call together a solemn assembly."  OK, what is an assembly, a calling together of the people.  In the book of Acts, the solemn assembly was in one place, at one time.  In these last days it's impossible for us to all gather in one place, but we can gather in many places.  That's the solemn assembly.  So you have this global assembly and God says if you humble yourselves, turn from your wicked ways, then I will pour out my spirit upon you, verse 23.  "Be glad then you children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God, for He has given you the former rain moderately, and He will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain and the latter rain in the first month."

• Lomacang - "You meant Joel 2:23."

• Myers - "Right."

• Lomacang - "I remember that because I read this text today."

• Myers - "Right, yeah, yeah, yeah."

• Garner - "And so here in this passage it calls for us, it gives us the promise that God is going to pour out His Spirit, it says as a predecessor to this, it says, "Blow the trumpet in zion," verse 15, "consecrate a fast, call a sacred assembly, gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children and nursing babes."  In other words, let's get the whole church, let's get everyone, let's get our whole households.  Let's proclaim that fast, let's call for a sacred assembly, let's pray together for this."

1. While this self stated "theory" sounds good, we don't agree with this "chain reaction."  This is a play on words and it just does not fit the order of the final events that are in the testimonies.
2. "... we set in motion a chain of events which ultimately will result in the..."  This statement glares of works.  The Bible and Ellen White tell us that the program of coming events is in the hands of our Maker, not our hands.

      "The ruin of Jerusalem was a symbol of the final ruin that shall overwhelm the world. The prophecies that received a partial fulfillment in the overthrow of Jerusalem have a more direct application to the last days. We are now standing on the threshold of great and solemn events. A crisis is before us, such as the world has never witnessed. And sweetly to us, as to the first disciples, comes the assurance that God's kingdom ruleth over all. The program of coming events is in the hands of our Maker. The Majesty of heaven has the destiny of nations, as well as the concerns of His church, in His own charge. The divine Instructor is saying to every agent in the accomplishment of His plans, as He said to Cyrus, "I girded thee, though thou hast not known Me." Isaiah 45:5. {MB 120.2}

     “There will be those among us who will always want to control the work of God, to dictate even what movements shall be made when the work goes forward under the direction of the angel who joins the third angel in the message to be given to the world. God will use ways and means by which it will be seen that He is taking the reins in His own hands. The workers will be surprised by the simple means that He will use to bring about and perfect His work of righteousness.--Testimonies to Ministers, p. 300. (1885)  {Ev 118.1} - Might some of those “among us” also try “to dictate” or intimate even when such “movements shall be made” concerning the work of the fourth angel?

3. What Joel is calling for in Joel 2:15 is revealed to us in verses 12 and 13; “…turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: and rend your heart and not your garments.”  This is a directive to fast, mourn, and weep for the sins we have committed – and to turn away from them and repent.  It is not a set of directions to bring on the Latter Rain.  This comes after the “weep[ing] between the porch and the altar…” (verse 17) and after the former rain (verse 23) – and “He (God) will cause [it] to come down.”

Ellen White Comments:

     "Many will honestly search the Word for light as those in the past have searched it; and they see light in the Word. But they did not pass over the ground in their experience, when these messages of warning were first proclaimed. Not having had this experience, some do not appreciate the value of the truths that have been to us as waymarks, and that have made us as a peculiar people what we are. They do not make a right application of the Scriptures, and thus they frame theories that are not correct. It is true that they quote an abundance of Scripture, and teach much that is true; but truth is so mixed with error as to lead to wrong conclusions. Yet because they can weave Scripture into their theories, they think they have a straight chain of truth. Many who did not have an experience in the rise of the messages, accept these erroneous theories, and are led into false paths, backward instead of forward. This is the enemy's design." {17MR 12.5}

• Lomacang - "Now your ran past that so fast somebody's going to say repeat that again. Global prayer..."

• Myers - "Yeah, amen, amen, amen.  Global warming and global warning.  So you've got this global warning that has gone out, you've got these people who are now coming out of Babylon.  And what happens is when these people come out of Babylon, a global exodus leads to global persecution.  And let me tell you why.  Because these various systems, are now asking the question, "Wait a minute, where are all our adherents going?  What's going on?  I mean in a matter a weeks or days or months, what is happening?  All of the sudden all of the worlds attention will be focused on this group of people."

     If the call to come out of Babylon comes before "Sunday Laws" (as stated further on) then can you please explain the following quotes?

1. "And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication." Revelation 14:6-8. How is this done? By forcing men to accept a spurious sabbath." {8T 94.2

2. "When do her sins reach unto heaven [Rev. 18:2-5]? When the law of God is finally made void by legislation." -ST June 12, 1893. {LDE 198.5}

     It's very clear that the Bible and SOP do not agree with OGR here.  The call of "Babylon is fallen, is fallen", that is to be repeated by the second angel* {EW 277.1} is specifically against, and mentioning National Sunday Law enforcement (the first fallen), and the fast approaching Universal Sunday Law that is given at this specific time (the second fallen.)

1. * - "The message of the fall of Babylon, as given by the second angel, is repeated, with the additional mention of the corruptions which have been entering the churches since 1844. The work of this angel comes in at the right time to join in the last great work of the third angel's message as it swells to a loud cry. And the people of God are thus prepared to stand in the hour of temptation, which they are soon to meet. I saw a great light resting upon them, and they united to fearlessly proclaim the third angel's message." {EW 277.1}

• Myers - "In Great Controversy page 606, after the people go back and ask their leaders, are these things so, she says, "But since many refuse to be satisfied with mere authority of men, and demand a plain thus saith the Lord, the popular ministry, like the Pharisees of old, filled with anger as their authority is questioned, will denounce the message as of Satan, and stir up the sin loving multitudes to persecute those who proclaim it."  And then she says, the Sunday Law will be invoked against commandment keepers.  Now this is real heavy.  We are waiting for a Sunday Law to spring us into action."

• Myers - (Shaking his head no.)  "God is waiting for, the Sunday Law is waiting for us.  The Sunday Law will be passed in particular against, just like Daniel in his day, that law was passed in particular against Daniel, even though it was for everyone, it was in particular for Daniel, so it will be in these days.  When God's people are out there proclaiming this truth, how are they going to retaliate?  Passing "a Sunday Law."  The Sunday Law comes as a result of the loud cry."

     Now this theory is just plain wrong.  If the "Sunday Law is waiting for us", then why didn't it wait for the generation of 1888?  In point of fact it did not wait for them, but only by much prayer and divine intervention was it held back.
     This statement should have been:  "The Universal Sunday Law comes as a result of the loud cry."  That would be acceptable.

Comments

     If we need something supernatural to intervene and cut the work short, then why is Operation Global Rain taking matters into their own hands.  IE, translators?  Has the Holy Spirit lost the gift of tongues?  Or are we playing with fire as did Nadab and Abiju?  In this clip they are talking about the gift of tongues possibly being restored and in other clips they are begging for translators?  This seems very inconsistent.

     We can agree as long as you are talking specifically globally.  But again, OGR is overlooking that the National Sunday Law will be passed in the United States first.  The SOP clearly states that the Latter Rain will NOT happen until after National Sunday Laws.  So if something happens, "before the time" might it be part of Satan's plan to deceive if possible even the elect?  Are we so naive that we believe that Satan would not try to attempt this deception in the Adventist Church, "among the people of the Lord?"

We can expect him (Satan) to oppose it.

• Garner - "And so the question might arise, "Is Satan just going to sit by idly and allow something like this to take place?"  He's going to oppose it.  We can expect him to oppose it.  So what is He going to do, what would he do to blockade the outpouring of God's spirit, which is going to bring on an end time scenario?"

1. What would he do to blockade the true Latter Rain?  Again, Ellen White says that "among the people of the Lord" "before the time" for the great revival of "primitive Godliness" and the true latter rain Satan will "endeavor to prevent it by introducing a counterfeit." {LDE 158.2} (GC88 464.1)  THAT'S HOW HE WILL ATTEMPT TO BLOCKADE IT.  (See the S.T.A.R.S. warning, and our True or False presentation for more depth on this topic of the counterfeit.)

2. The outpouring of the Latter Rain is not going to bring on an "end time scenario."  The latter rain is not poured out until God's people have reached their extremity.

"...the Lord will interpose when matters have come to such a pass that none but a divine power can counteract the satanic agencies at work. When His people shall be in the greatest danger, seemingly unable to stand against the power of Satan, God will work in their behalf. Man's extremity is God's opportunity." {2SM 373.1}

     This has not happened yet.

     This sounds dangerously close to works.  Would we repeat the experience of Nadab and Abihu?  They brought the common fire representing the works of their hands as an offering into the sanctuary.  They lost eternal salvation for their disobedience.

John Lomacang intimates only one day of waiting for the Latter Rain.

     In the light of all the statements made about the timing of the Latter Rain, we really should be careful about comments like these.  You cannot make even the slightest intimation about the timing of the Latter Rain.  We are specifically warned of this:

     "We are not to know the definite time either for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit or for the coming of Christ." --Review and Herald, March 22, 1892. {Ev 221.1}

The devil will cause division in the church.

• Myers - "In terms of the Sunday Laws?"

• Myers - "Well most states have a Sunday Law on their book.  On their books.  So it's just a matter of the right event that will bring about the Sunday Law.  And it will be a combination of things, but the key event having been revived, and therefore the devil saying it's time to revive persecution."

     You can't just lump Sunday Law progression into a loose term like "the Sunday Laws."  This is both dangerous and is contrary to the counsels given by God through Ellen White.  First and foremost we are warned that in relation to the Latter Rain experience that "among the people of the Lord" Satan would "endeavor to introduce a counterfeit" prior to the "revival of primitive Godliness" that results in the Latter Rain, with it's goal being to make of none effect the testimony.  That's THIS church friends, make no mistake about it!  This is the only church that has the testimonies!  We are warned that National Sunday Laws come first.  We are warned that the storm of persecution comes first.  We are warned that the shaking comes first.
